[ARCEUS]

Once upon a time, in a faraway land we known as Aniferna, there were special Pokemon that were bestowed upon newborn children by the great Arceus. An infant was born, and there, right beside the little child, was a Pokemon. This Pokemon, it was soon found, represented the child's true nature. One who was gentle and generous received an Audino. One who was disciplined and focused received a Meditite. One who was impish and loved making trouble received a Weavile. And the list went on and on. These Pokemon, said to be the physical manifestation of either a small part of or the entire soul of the person, thus received the title of a "Soulmate." These Soulmates grow, fight, and, at the end of their lives, die and join Arceus together with their humans. Soulmates are often the most cherished of a human's Pokemon, as a Soulmate is not immortal. If a human dies, the Soulmate dies. However, if the Soulmate dies, the human lives on, missing a part of them that can never be replaced--a mere shadow of their former self.

However, not every human received their Soulmate in the same way, it seemed.

Records dating back to nearly a hundred years ago documented the first appearances of humans born without Soulmates. However, these children were treated no differently than children born with Soulmates for one reason. These children were found shifting between human and Pokemon--usually in their sleep. These shifters often gained control of their shifting by the time they reached their teenage years, being able to go between their form and their Soulmate's form at will.

However, just recently, it has been shown that humans can be born completely without a Soulmate. This has only been documented with one person--a bitter person who feels the emptiness that comes without a Soulmate. However, he claims that he has become one with his Soulmate, and that in order to truly be whole, all humans should free themselves from their Soulmates. In other words, kill them. With that in mind, he began killing the Soulmates of innocent people, saying he was uniting the two. Thus, Team Unifi was born. People who have lost their Soulmates to Unifi's hand, or even lost their Soulmates before the emergence of the team, took shelter under the delusion that they were doing a great justice to the people of Aniferna.

Even though Team Unifi is still young, only having existed in Aniferna for about three years, its effects on the world have been devastating. Humans who have not yet lost their Soulmates or, in the case of Shifters, brutally slaughtered, live in fear, holding their Soulmates tight and waiting for brave souls to rise up to combat Unifi and bring peace to Aniferna once more.
