She was grateful, as that meant that Miragova's market would be open. And her hopes were confirmed as she stepped into the town, her Herdier trotting happily at her side. The little canine Pokemon watched with a great deal of interest as people walked the streets, all sorts of Soulmates following close behind.
/What were you coming for again?/ the Herdier asked gently, /I know you mentioned something about books, but is that really all you're coming for? Miragova is such a pretty town, it would be a shame just to come here for a book or two.../
The Herdier stopped walking as soon as he noticed that his human wasn't walking with him. She had stopped a few feet back, gazing down at one of the stands that was selling all sorts of old-looking books, in front of the town's antique bookstore, it seemed. Even though he hadn't gone too far, it seemed Sophie had already struck up a conversation with the old woman sitting behind the stand.
"Yes ma'am!" the merchant, an older-looking woman with a Taillow perched on her shoulder, "Most of these books are at least fifty years old. Some of 'em are even hand written!"
"Really?" This detail caused the young researcher to perk up slightly. Reaching for one of the books, she picked it up with the utmost care, handling it gently. The cover, made of what she guessed was well-worn Tauros leather, appeared to have had faded golden lettering, but of what, Sophie couldn't tell, as it had rubbed off for the most part. Gingerly opening the book, she flipped a couple of the yellowed pages, noting the text within, and the pictures, which seemed to be crude drawings of Pokemon. It was almost like a book of ancient history, though she would have to read into it more if she wanted to find out if it was of Aniferna or of some other region. But she didn't have that time, nor did she want the old woman to think she was just going to sit and read it without buying. "How much is this one?"
"Into history, then? I have some other history books if you're interested," the woman gave a croaking laugh, before picking up a stack of four other books, each one just as worn-looking as the one Sophie was holding. "You're a dyin' breed, then. Most of the kids nowadays are all into their sappy romance and such. No wonder that criminal scum has managed to slip in unawares. Too many kissy faces and other foolishness." Sophie noticed the woman's Taillow glance down at Leo, having a mental conversation with the Herdier, Sophie guessed.
The researcher tenderly picked up each of the old books, reading a little excerpt and noting the pictures in each before stacking them all up and saying with a hint of excitement, "These will probably have a lot of good information for my research! How much for all five?"
The woman looked down at the books, then up at Sophie, then back and the books, and continued this for what seemed like an eternity. Sophie wondered if she and the Taillow were having some sort of conversation in the process, but immediately turned her gaze back to the woman when heard her speak. "Y'know what?" she finally said, throwing her hands up, "I really don't know. We don't get much business anymore, so how 'bout fifty for the one you picked up, and the other four are free?"
Sophie wasted no time. Opening her bag, she pulled out the money the woman wanted, before gingerly placing each book amongst her notebooks and other supplies. Giving the woman a heartfelt thanks, she immediately turned back toward the street, ready to see what else Miragova's market had to offer. And Leopold took extra care to keep up with, and not get ahead of, his darling human.[/style][STYLE=margin:5px 20px;font:7pt helvetica;text-align:justify;text-transform:uppercase;color:#ccc;line-height:99%;padding:5px 10px;text-shadow:#ddd 1px 1px 1px;]words 673 tags aria~ notes let the cuteness begin! credit table made by greyson of btn[/style] |

Third time in Miragova, that was right. And she liked the place. There was a certain kind of peace to it that you couldn't easily find elsewhere. Maybe it was the lack of Unifi? Or perhaps the presence of the Colbalt River? Whatever it was, it made her feel comfortable. Or rather, as comfortable as she could manage to be, what with her proneness to anything self-inflicted.
She was glad that it wasn't storming on this particular day. Both times previously she'd had to take shelter from the downpour for most of her stay. But the downside to that was how very busy it was. The brunette being who she was, she usually didn't fare well in crowds. It at least tripled the possibility of disaster.
Not that she was going to let it stop her. Aria hugged Mickey close and shuffled down the streets curiously, poking her head here and there, trying to catch a glimpse of everything. It didn't take her too long to come across the market, and how could she resist? In she went.
It seemed even more crowded here, but it was of an organized sort, as people flowed more smoothly past the booths than they did about roads. "Oh, good," she sighed under her breath at the small break, and as a courtesy set her soulmate down. It was a bit of a habit to cling to him if things were looking hectic -- being a Spinda, he had about as much balance as she did, except he was much easier to loose or trample. The small Pokemon shook lightly and blinked, before following Aria as she began to browse the stalls.
The girl was marveling at the glittering stones adorning the garments of a jewelry stand when suddenly she felt a tugging at her left sock, followed by a call of her name. She jumped slightly in surprise and looked down, confused. "Huh?"
"Look, over there!" Mickey was pointing very determinedly to the row of stalls behind them. Aria tried to follow his gesture.
"What? I don't see anything," She frowned, trying what she decided as way too hard to pick out whatever it was that her soulmate was so keen on showing her. "Do you want to look at the stall over there?"
The Spinda made a slight "hrumph" noise. "Noo, look at the people! Don't you see her?"
Even then, it took her a second. "Who--" There was who Mickey was referring to! There, looking extremely excited about an old book stand. A smile broke out on her lit face. "Oh~!" She immediately turned and ran over to surprise the older girl whom she'd spotted.
Unfortunately for her, she'd moved far too quickly for her own good. Aria managed to trip over her own feet in a last-minute avoidance of a passerby and the momentum carried her forward: right into the book stand, with a surprised "Eep!"escaping her lips. A few piles toppled into the lady running it and the ones that didn't scattered about the small countertop, one or two teetering precariously and threatening to fall to the ground. The brunette herself had nearly faceplanted on the wooden surface. Luckily her arms had broken that fall for her.
"I-I'm sorry!" She blurted, for a moment forgetting why she had been running over in the first place, her hands scrambling to prevent any more books from falling off the stand. Then she looked to her left, spotted Sophie, and failed to swallow the pink blush that immediately crept across her face. Aria tried to regain her composure, and flashed a sheepish smile. "Uh, hey there. Fancy seeing you again, huh?"[/style][style=background-color: #f7f7f7;float: right; height: 370px; width: 100px; -webkit-border-radius: 0 10 10 0; -webkit-box-shadow: 1px 0px 5px #d4d4d4; padding: 10px; margin-right: -120px; margin-top: -400px; font-family: arial; font-size: 20px; color: #da2328; letter-spacing: -1px; ]notes

/Sophie, look!/ Leo's voice echoed in her head. Sophie just barely had time to turn around when she saw a girl take a tumble straight into the stand. The woman and the Taillow jumped back just in time to keep from being buried under books, and a cloud of dust was kicked up as several of the books hit the ground. Giving a squeak of terror, Sophie immediately went to begin gathering the fallen books up, checking them for any sort of damage.
However, all attention on the books disappeared when she realized who the girl that had taken a tumble was. No wonder Leo was going crazy! Placing the armful of books that she had gathered up off the ground onto the counter of the stand, Sophie immediately brushed herself off, meeting the younger girl's gaze with a smile. "Aria! It's most certainly been a while! How have you been?"
It was right about that time that Sophie heard the loud chattering of the Taillow, who was undoubtedly just as angry as the woman who just had her merchandise scattered all over the place. Realizing that this could mean trouble for the girl, Sophie grabbed hold of the Aria's hand, immediately pulling her away, while Leo took the duty of getting behind Mickey, gently pushing the Spinda away with them to avoid the old woman's wrath.
Sophie managed to drag Aria a short distance away, into a small coffee shop, before she, with Leo close behind (hopefully) still nudging the little Spinda with him. Once they were safe within the coffee shop, Sophie stared out the large window at the front of the shop, looking for an angry-looking woman or Taillow and, when she didn't see any of them, breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sorry about that," she said gently, smiling. "Last thing I wanted was to see that woman start yelling at you." With that, she turned her head toward the counter, where a young man was standing with his Purrloin perched on the counter beside him. "Well, while we're here, would you like some coffee? It'll be my treat! After all, it's been so long, we should catch up!"
/And while they're at it, we should catch up, too!/ Leo immediately said to Mickey, his tail wagging. /After all, there's a lot that we've seen that our humans are bound to miss!/ With that, the Herdier picked a table--one with four chairs a good distance from the window at the front of the shop (so should the book woman happen to walk by, it would be less of a chance that she would see them). Hopping up into one of the chairs, the Herdier looked down at the Spinda, ready to catch up with Mickey and watch as Sophie caught up with Aria. After all, if there was one thing Sophie wouldn't shut up about during their travels (well, besides her normal chatter of history and Soulmates and the like), it was that coordinator. They had only met once before, but apparently Aria had made some sort of impression on Sophie.[/style][STYLE=margin:5px 20px;font:7pt helvetica;text-align:justify;text-transform:uppercase;color:#ccc;line-height:99%;padding:5px 10px;text-shadow:#ddd 1px 1px 1px;]words 544 tags aria~ notes let the cuteness begin! credit table made by greyson of btn[/style] |

And then the greeting. But why was she always bumbling around when it came to a first impression with this girl? First she fell off a ladder and landed on her, and now she'd nearly knocked down a book stall. Yeah, bad luck. "I--"
And the next thing she knew, she was being pulled away.
In retrospect, it was a miracle she survived the experience unharmed. She'd barely managed to register the cawing Taillow and hardly anything at all from the old lady behind the stand. So being pulled away, and having to run behind a determined-to-flee Sophie was... Unexpected, to say the least. By the surprised sound that Mickey made, he wasn't expecting it either.
Aria managed to keep up, though. Granted she nearly rammed herself into the side of the door, but luckily it was only a close call. Then they were stopping, and she was catching her breath, and glanced down just in time to see Sophie's soulmate pushing in her own companion through the door after them.
Once that seemed in order, the teen looked back over at said girl. Sophie was looking quite intently out the window. Looking for that old lady? Aria shuddered ever-so-slightly. She certainly hadn't meant to made the woman mad! Clumsiness was just in her nature. At least Sophie didn't look annoyed. In fact, hey, she was talking again.
"O-Oh, right." She replied lamely as Sophie explained their sudden getaway, not sure what else to add there. Embarrassment was probably clear on her expression, but she tried to brush it off. Then there was the offer of coffee. "I'm not a big coffee fan, if that's okay," Aria paused. "But cappuccinos are fine. I can pay for myself, though." That was more of her guilt talking -- she didn't want Sophie to feel obliged to buy her anything. Especially after the fiasco she herself had just put the both of them through. "I'd love to catch up, though! It's been so long~." She cracked a smile.
Meanwhile, Mickey wasn't about to not take the Herdier up on his offer. "Sure~!" The Spinda bounced up onto the chair next to Leo, and settled himself in. "What have you guys been up to?" He inquired curiously. I think it might have been his Soulmate!/ The little Herdier's tail was wagging up a storm, it seemed, he was so excited to be able to catch up with a friend. /And...and...Oh! Last week, when Sophie and I were up in Erennal, we saw a meteor shower! And...and...she found one of the meteors the next morning! It's really shiny and pretty, you should see it!/ Being the Soulmate of such a passionate researcher as Sophie, it was no surprise that the Herdier would get so worked up about such a simple thing that very few would ever find worth their time.
Meanwhile, Sophie noticed that several younger women, probably around her or Aria's age, were just standing near the back of the store, waiting. One of them seemed to be holding some sort of...menu? in her hands. Wondering if this was more of a cafe than a simple coffee shop, Sophie decided to sit down at the table that Leo and Mickey had picked out. Immediately, one of the girls, with a Plusle sitting on her shoulder, moved forward. "Welcome!" she bowed to the pair, the Plusle clinging to the girl's shoulder. With that, she placed two menus on the table
Sort of taken aback by the realization that this was more than just a normal coffee shop, Sophie blinked at the girl, before realizing she was probably making her uncomfortable. Managing a smile, she said, "A-ah, thank you." With that, the girl bobbed a curtsy and dashed off into the back, leaving Sophie, still a little confused, to face Aria.
"Well, this was unexpected. I apologize, I didn't realize this was a cafe. Well, shall we get lunch instead, then?" With that, she immediately tacked on, "U-unless you've already eaten lunch!" She had to admit, she hadn't, and was a little hungry, but if Aria had already eaten, Sophie didn't want to try to force anything on the girl.
Leo's attention had turned from Mickey to just how suddenly Sophie had gotten flustered. Was she okay? Blinking, he turned to Mickey. /Sophie's acting really strange...But that's the thing, she acts like this all the time whenever Aria comes to mind./ He paused, before his head cocked slightly tot he side. /Is Aria like that sometimes? Or is Sophie as silly as I am?/[/style][STYLE=margin:5px 20px;font:7pt helvetica;text-align:justify;text-transform:uppercase;color:#ccc;line-height:99%;padding:5px 10px;text-shadow:#ddd 1px 1px 1px;]words 430 tags aria~ notes yeep, writer's block. credit table made by greyson of btn[/style] |

Really?" Color the little Spinda impressed, that was a legendary Pokemon. You didn't see those very often, and it was nearly unheard of to see one as a Soulmate. Then the Herdier was off again, and Mickey listened intently. A meteor shower? "That sounds neat, he commented. "We saw a meteor shower once, but it was cloudy..."
Then Leo paused, and the bear-like Pokemon took it as his cue to do a bit of catching up. "Well, Aria placed in two contests -- she got first place in one of them!" Mickey grinned. "She was so excited. Then, uh, we've done a lot of sightseeing, and wandering around." Aria always grew so excited when she was in contests, and Mickey loved seeing her come out of her shell like that, even if she was still learning. It was the only time she really did that, although she showed hints of it whenever Sophie was around for some reason.
Speaking of the two girls, Aria was trying to follow Sophie's train of thought -- and she spotted the waitresses as well. "Oh!" She smiled and sat down beside the other three. "Lunch sounds good." Sophie looked suddenly distressed, or something, and the younger girl couldn't make total sense of it. Was it sensitivity? As if she didn't want to make Aria feel obliged to eat if she already had. Suddenly the brunette felt slightly flustered, and she tried to hide the light pink dusting over her cheeks as she picked up the menu. "W-We actually haven't eaten yet, don't worry," She tried to reassure. But it suddenly felt like she was trying a bit to hard not to come across as oddly flustered as she felt, so she buried her nose in the menu in an attempt to distract herself and perhaps calm down a little.
Mickey, meanwhile, was watching Aria curiously and listening to Leo at the same time. "Huh, really, Sophie's acting weird, too?" Aria wasn't acting abnormally, per say (she was always prone to ditsiness and a bit more energy than she could usually handle). But it was a little off from the usual. "Dunno about Sophie, but Aria's a bit different around her. I mean, she's always kinda clumsy with herself, but she second-guesses herself more than usual. Kinda like she's nervous or unsure. Why hadn't they heard about it? Usually when contests went over, most of the newspapers carried the results! He would have to ask Sophie about that later. /Really? That's amazing! Hopefully her momentum will keep up, and she'll keep winning!/ That would make Sophie happy, to see that. Sophie was always so proud of her friends whenever they achieved something. It was something she felt she could always brag about. Saying something like 'Oh, my friend won this contest.' or 'Well, my friend has all six badges now!' And they did sightseeing, too? Sophie was usually too obsessed in looking at an interesting-looking shell on the beach rather than at the horizon or a Gyarados that just jumped out of the water to catch a Wingull. She was more interested in the carvings on the trunk of the tree rather than the odd-colored Swellow nesting in the branches above. She would probably love to hear of the things Aria had seen!
As soon as Aria told Sophie that she and her Soulmate hadn't eaten yet, Sophie smiled, looking a little relieved. "That's good to hear," she said gently, "Then we can catch up over lunch!" With that, the girl sat back, opening the menu and beginning to look it over. It was standard cafe fare, it seemed. Sandwiches, salads, nothing too heavy. It almost seemed to have more desserts than it did actual food, not that Sophie was complaining. She felt she deserved a treat. "My goodness, they only have a few desserts, don't they?" she asked Aria, her voice tinged with a bit of playful sarcasm, and a laugh followed. She was just trying to calm herself down. Last thing she wanted to do was make the other girl uncomfortable.
She hadn't managed to figure out what she wanted just yet, when the waitress' voice reached her ears again. "Can I start you two out with something to drink?" the girl asked, and immediately, Sophie's gaze moved up to the girl.
"Ah, yes. Lemonade, please," she said, managing a smile. She decided she would hold off on coffee until after lunch, while she was enjoying dessert. With that, the waitress nodded, and turned to Aria. "And you, miss?"
As Leo heard Mickey ask if Sophie was actually acting strange as well, the Herdier turned his gaze from his human back to the Spinda. /Yes, Sophie's definitely not acting herself. Perhaps she's just uneasy about being in such close interaction with another human? Usually, it's just the two of us. But.../ He paused, turning and looking at Sophie again. Noticing that the Herdier was looking her way, the researcher smiled and gently stroked the Pokemon's head, making Leo's tail start wagging again.
/Anyway, as I was saying, she doesn't seem to get this uneasy when with people normally. Perhaps it's because Aria's a friend, and not just a stranger she's doing research with? I don't know...but Sophie's definitely not acting herself, either./ The Herdier shrugged his little shoulders then. /I don't know./
