[/b] Summer has always had a soft spot for...well, nearly everyone and anything. Humans, pokemon, even plants - they all have easy access to the bounteous stores of affection that lurk within her. She comes from a large family and, as such, has learned to be a very patient and giving person, and she doesn't think twice about offering help if she can. She is positive more often than not and tries to find good in everything
SUMMER layla MIEL
"BUT THESE STORIES DON'T MEAN ANYTHING
WHEN YOU'VE GOT NO ONE TO TELL THEM TO
IT'S TRUE, I WAS MADE FOR YOU"NAME:: Summer Layla Miel.
AGE:: Twenty-five.
GENDER:: Female.
CLASS:: Gym Leader.
BIRTH SEASON:: Summer.
ORIENTATION:: Bisexual.POSITIVE TRAITS::
-- Protective: When it comes to those under her care, Summer can be remarkably fierce if she feels they're being threatened. She has always had a strong sense of 'herd' where the people she considers her family are concerned (probably because she grew up raising Miltanks) and that umbrella of protection can just as easily be transferred to strangers if she thinks they're in need. In general, Summer roots for the underdog and be quite belligerent if she thinks anyone is being a bully.
-- Maternal: Again, maybe this comes from having been born the eldest of such a large family, but Summer tends to try and mother everything and everyone that she can. She likes looking after people, loves feeding them and has a particular weakness for young people and pokemon. That being said, she will cheerfully try and mother people even if they're older than her.
-- Generous: What's hers is yours. Period. Be it her time, possessions or her skills, Summer is an extremely generous person. Especially when it comes to food - dinner at her house means being sent home with leftovers that will last you for a week. Plus cookies.
-- Adaptable: One of Summer's more curious personality traits is that she's always been rather good at letting the needs of the environment affect which parts of her she brings out. Like a creature adapting to a changing environment, she has a rather uncanny knack for reading a situation and knowing what would be best - to be stern, to be gentle, to be dominating. This is part of why she's a good gym leader, this ability to read people. She is not infallible and often gets it wrong with strangers but, where social situations are concerned, she can be something of a chameleon, changing to reflect the environment around her or what the group she's with needs. Being versatile is probably her greatest strength and it goes hand in hand with liking to be able to put people at ease.
-- Social: Summer loves people. Her family used to joke that she got along so well with the Miltanks because she was a herd animal herself. Though she's quite dominant and likes to be in charge, Summer is still very amiable and enjoys the company of other people. Especially if she gets to feed them. Or if there's dancing involved, which she loves.
-- Strong-willed: This is the positive side of it, the part that makes her a good leader. Summer knows what she wants and has strong views on what is right and, as such, is not easily bullied or pressured into anything. Being as determined as she is allows her to have the strength to protect both her people, her pokemon and her ideals, as well as her position as Gym Leader in Virenya.

NEGATIVE TRAITS::
-- Relentless: She can definitely take the mothering thing too far and is pretty damn pushy about it. She's not good at giving up regarding anything and, whether you like it or not, you are going to be mothered. Taking no for an answer is not a strength of hers.
-- Bossy: Maybe it's something she gets from her Soulmate, but Summer has always been strong-willed and treats life rather like a hierarchy where the strongest person gets to be in charge. As a Gym Leader, she's obviously one of the stronger trainers around, but she can still be rather bossy when it comes to people. Asserting her dominance isn't something she does regularly, but she doesn't take insubordination well and can come down quite hard on anyone she perceives as being impudent. She is also rather used to being obeyed with a certain amount of alacrity.
-- No sense of personal space: Where people she's familiar with are concerned, Summer is ridiculously overly-tactile. She drapes herself over people constantly and demands hugs a lot of the time, regardless of whether said people like to be touched or not. She has no awareness of physical boundaries and cheerfully tramples over them all the time.
-- Ditzy: For someone so bossy and strong a lot of the time, she can be hopelessly blonde sometimes. She's a tad scatterbrained at times and often acts quite girlish and silly when she's not trying to mother the life out of you. Though the ditzy moments rarely crop up when she is needed to be serious, they can be frustrating in their frequency at other times.
-- Biased: 'Ohmigod, you eat meat?' The problem with Summer being as stubborn as she is is that, on some specific issues, she cannot conceive other people's opinions being valid. Team Unifi is one of them, where she is Absolutely Convinced that there is no good in them whatsoever and that their actions are Completely Unforgivable. Eating meat is another since she's a strict vegetarian and is horrified by other people's decision to eat meat. Annoyingly, she is very stubborn about her belief that she is right regarding these issues and can be quite naggy when she tries to convince people to change their ways.
-- Clingy: Once you're friends with Summer, you're friends for life. She can be fairly demanding when it comes to attention and, particularly with friends and family, she likes to hold people close. Letting go of people is not her forte.
[/ul]
GOALS::
-- To feed everyone she can.
-- To do everything she can to stop those Unifi monsters.
[/ul]
FEARS::
-- Harm coming to her loved ones.
-- The world becoming a worse place because of inaction on her half.

STORY::[/i]. And there was a curious sense of satisfaction and security that came from that.
It made sense, probably, that Summer was good with anything that had to do with utilising the richness of the earth, with good, growing things. After all, her Soulmate was of the Grass type and reflected the state of the land around her. To keep her Soulmate happy and healthy, Summer had to grow to love making sure the earth was nourished and healthy and that green things had everything they needed to grow. In the same way that she nurtured her mother's trees and her father's herd of Miltank, so too did she look after all of her siblings and there was little doubt that Summer had a strongly maternal side to her.
Like the season she was named for, she gave generously of her warmth and did her best to be what her family needed. For her father, she was a hard worker, willing to stay out late into the night searching for a lost Miltank that had gone a-wandering, or get up before the sun did to ensure everyone was milked and fed. For her mother, she was a patient girl, with gentle hands where the berry trees were concerned, and obedient whenever her nerves were over-fraught. For her siblings, she was everything - nurse, playmate, bather, bedtime story reader, even Legendary Pokemon Steed where their make-believe games were concerned (she did an awesome Groudon impression, apparently.) Summer grew into someone who changed with time as necessary, her personality reflecting what the people around her needed the most, or at least bringing out the most suitable parts of her when required.
As a child, she'd generally been too busy helping out on the ranch to actually have any particular dreams of being a trainer. Such a path in life hadn't actually occurred to her. Oh, she battled here and there, defending the farm from the odd wild pokemon that thought her mother's Berry trees smelled particularly delicious, but she hadn't considered it to be a viable career path. Not when the ranch was so busy. Not when she was needed here.
Then the raiders came.
It was on a crisp autumn morning when Summer was sixteen that she heard the sound of terrified Miltanks out in the pasture. Her mother and her younger siblings were at market, selling their wares and laying in stocks for the upcoming winter months. Her father was far from the main buildings of the ranch, he and his Rapidash Soulmate working together to take half of their herd out to try and find better grazing land further away from their central pastures. So when she ran outside to see three men, all with large, swift canine pokemon, clearly trying to round up the part of her herd that had left behind...well, she was the only one there to protect the pokemon they depended upon for their livelihood. Those Miltank represented shoes for her younger brother, a pretty dress for her sister's tenth birthday, enough food to feed all of those hungry mouths in the years to come. In no world whatsoever was the stubborn, determined Summer going to allow those to be stolen from her without her putting up a fight.
And so she and her Grass Soulmate pitched in. Maybe it was more dumb luck than anything else, but justice and a fierce sense of outrage prevailed in the end. Perhaps it was because Summer had always had a strong sense of 'herd' where her family was concerned and that aura alone convinced even the peaceful Miltank to fight to defend themselves and the girl who fed and milked and cared for them with such kind-heartedness. Either way, when her parents and siblings returned, it was to a tired but victorious Summer and a full complement of Miltank. She had been successful.
But, more than that, that incident had sparked a love of battling within her. Summer agonised over it all of that winter, but when Spring finally came her parents sat her down and had a talk with her. Her restlessness had been clear, they told her, and they weren't looking to cage her forever. She was old enough to go and be her own person now, especially now some of her younger siblings were old enough to help out on the ranch as well. It was a hard thing to do for Summer to leave behind her family when 'herd' meant so much to her but, for the first time, something beyond the family ranch called to her.
This was how Summer started her pokemon journey - a lot later than most, yes, and certainly with a definite air of naiveté. She was very much a country bumpkin, sheltered and unused to the bright lights and amenities of the city. She probably spent the first year of her journey with her jaw permanently dragging in the dirt as she gawked at all the wonders she'd never been exposed to before, the luxuries that simply hadn't existed on her small farm, and was almost certainly ridiculous whenever she encountered someone 'cultured.' Slowly, though, she grew accustomed to life as a trainer and the travelling certainly caused her to grow as a person. She travelled all the way across Aniferna and back, fighting battles wherever she went and collecting pokemon on the way. Predictably, she showed a distinct fondness for Grass type pokemon and her small, but trusted team reflected the fact that she had failed to leave her origins completely behind and that her love of green, growing things was something she would never leave behind.
By the time she was eighteen, Summer had circled back nearly the entire way and found herself in Virenya City, the closest big settlement to her family's ranch. It was there that she decided to challenge the current Gym Leader there...and found herself thoroughly trounced. A friendship was struck up though, a true one, and Summer stayed on in the Gym as the Gym Leader's apprentice. And, in time, when the original Gym Leader retired...well, everyone had known that the young, blonde woman was her likely successor.
Summer has now been Gym Leader for nearly six years now and has become something of a staple part of life in Virenya. She's a hugely social Gym Leader and likes to know what's going on with her neighbours. When she has the time, she also works shifts at one of the bigger restaurants in the city so she can indulge her other passion - feeding people. She has a reputation for being kind, but completely hard-headed when it comes to certain issues and Team Unifi is one of them. She is completely opposed to their abhorrent practices and is currently doing her best to rid her city of their presence...though with limited success.
